Esther 9 “Purim, Joy & Sorrow”
The day to annihilate the Jews according to the Kings Decree arrives. But, King Xerxes charters constitutional laws allowing for the Jewish people to defend themselves, their homes and their families. This is the civil war of the Persian empire, the biblical parallel to “The Purge” where crime, even murder, is allowed. The death of 75,810 people, with a combined estate of 33 billion dollars today! Untouched. The Jews are empowered because of one man, Mordecai who has gained the favor and status second only to Xerxes himself. This chapter reveals how we are empowered by the actions of one man, Jesus Christ, who sanctions and empowers us to overcome our enemies. This is the origin story of the day of Purim, a Jewish festival to commemorate the day Haman took a gamble on trying to destroy the people of God.

Esther Chapter 8 “Law, Order & Covenant” The antagonist of the Jews is finally impaled. His estate and power removed and handed over to another. How can order be restored in the kingdom? Esther pleads on behalf of her people against the plan Haman had set in motion. Mordecai is given power of attorney to make things right again, creating the first Jewish Charter akin to the Constitution of the United States.  Chapter eight is a foreshadow of Jesus fulfilling the Law and inscribing another in the tablet of our heart. The law created to slaughter a people, now is the law that empowers the believer. All it takes is one word from the King.
 

Esther Chapter 7 “A Husbands Fury”
A private banquet turns into a scene of bloodshed and accusations of the kingdom’s current affairs. The King is enraged by the byproduct of his own actions, putting his own wife at risk in the very hands of her oppressor. Wrath to destroy and discipline to correct unfold in the most unprecedented manner. What is deserving of one who hurts the one you love? This chapter foreshadows the wrath of God against those who hurt his beloved, his justice to anyone who conspires to oppress his people. All creation waits for the greatest wedding banquet between God and his church, are you invited to sit at the table?

Esther Chapter 6 “A Providers Heart”
Haman was enraged at the mere sight of Mordecai, who idly refused to bow down to the authority and honor bestowed upon him by the King. His wife suggested impalement before drastically changing her mind at the end of the chapter, but what changed her mind? The troublesome sleepless night reveals hidden accounts in the kingdom causing the most unexpected decree by the King.  This chapter exposes the character of a provider, painting the image of God as a father, and Jesus who is always working on our behalf. The power of God to change your most out of your control situation for good.
